What is double-encryption (two-factor) authentication?
It is easier than you think for people to steal your password. Any of these everyday actions could put you at risk of having your password stolen:
- Using an identical password on more than one website
- Downloading items from the Internet
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) can help keep bad guys out, even if they have your password. Two-Factor Authentication works by adding an extra layer of security. If a bad guy hacks through your password layer, they will still need your phone to get into your account.
You will protect your account with something you know (your password) and something you have (your phone). A verification code is then made just for you and either created through your Authenticator app or sent to you by SMS (text). You can download an authenticator from the app store; we recommend the Google or Microsoft Authenticator apps which are available for Android, iPhone, or BlackBerry and can generate verification codes. It even works when your device has no phone or data connectivity. Codes are uniquely crafted for your account when you need them. Each code can only be used once.
